Dear Family Members, I’m not sorry. I’ll see y’all at Christmas 🤷🏾♀️ Certain family members are salty, but I decided that this year I’m doing me. Just because something is ‘family tradition’ doesn’t mean I’m obligated to partake. I have my own family and can make my own customs. Last year I skipped Christmas and this year I’m skipping Thanksgiving. My son is spending the holiday with his dad and I have some vacation time to use up before the end of the year. Hopping on a flight seemed like a no brainer to me.
I love my family but personally, social interaction can honestly be exhausting and in those family settings I have to constantly be “on”. Not just on, but mentally prepared. Questions about shit that I don’t care to discuss, comments on my weight, etc. I just don’t have the time or energy. Speaking of weight, that’s another reason why I’m skipping this year. It’s no secret that I have a very unhealthy relationship with food. I’m the type of person that stress eats. When that happens there is no off switch. Will power? Never heard of her. So instead of being stressed, eating myself until I’m sick and then laying on the couch for hours, I’m going to hop on a plane and see what’s going on in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Eating less and being more active while enjoying warm weather? Sounds like heaven.
